Our annual data report highlights a critical opportunity for the food service industry. By adding more plant-rich options, food service providers can grow their operations while keeping emissions stable. Our findings show an 11% reduction in per-plate emissions. For the first time showing a decoupling of business growth and emissions.

Through its unique role in people’s daily routines, food service has an opportunity to create dining environments that make it easier for people to choose healthier, low-carbon menu items. Coolfood is one of the leading contributors supporting the food service industry in making this vision a reality.
The Coolfood community’s progress proves this is not just possible, but happening now. Our earliest members have already achieved a 21% per-plate reduction in the climate impact of their food, a powerful testament to the effectiveness of our collaborative approach. Our network has grown from a core group of 47 organizations in 2021 to over 90 today. This expansion is underpinned by the satisfaction of our members; we’ve maintained a 91% retention rate, with 89% of members expressing high satisfaction with our services.
Our collaborative approach has significantly amplified our collective reach and impact. Food providers serving 10 billion meals each year rely on Coolfood’s expertise and tools to reduce food-related GHG emissions. The number of meals served annually within Coolfood’s collaborators has more than quadrupled in the past 4 years. Our work to align our methodology with leading climate data platforms like Klimato and Foodsteps, demonstrates our collaborative strategy in action and helps us reach diverse businesses worldwide. By aligning our methodologies, we ensure a consistent, science-based approach to reducing food-related emissions across the industry. Collaborations with organizations like Healthcare Without Harm and the Menus of Change University Research Collaborative also allow us to bring the Coolfood Pledge, our science-based framework, and our behavioral science expertise to a wider audience, creating a streamlined way to reach more people with an agile team. While our work with the largest global contract caterers helps to reach diverse businesses globally.
