Update: Cool Food’s Alignment with Greenhouse Gas Protocol and Science Based Targets Initiative
This is an overview on the alignment between Cool Food, the draft Greenhouse Gas Protocol Land Sector and Removals Guidance (GHGP), and the Science Based Targets Initiative Forest, Land, and Agriculture Guidance (SBTi FLAG).
Event: The Big Apple Takes a Bite Out of Climate Change
On September 21, 2022, Cool Food hosted an event in New York City to celebrate its members’ successes during Climate Week. It is critical for people – and the food businesses, cities, hospitals and others that help feed them – to embrace low-carbon foods, which is why Cool Food used this opportunity to bring awareness to the link between food-related emissions and the climate on a global stage.
2021 Cool Food Pledge Data
Cool Food publicly reports the group’s collective greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions annually against a target of reducing absolute GHG emissions by 25 percent by 2030. This update reports progress through 2021 toward the 2030 target. Because COVID-19 affected total food purchases, this update also includes an estimate of the reduction in GHG emissions “per plate” through 2021.
2020 Cool Food Pledge Data
Cool Food publicly reports the group’s collective greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions annually against a target of reducing GHG emissions by 25% by 2030. This update compares the overall food-related GHG emissions in 2020 to the base year and the 2030 target. Because COVID-19 affected total food purchases, this update also includes an estimate of the reduction in GHG emissions “per plate” through 2020.

Cool Food publicly reports the group’s collective greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions annually against a target of reducing GHG emissions by 25% by 2030. This update includes a comparison of 2019 annual data to the base year of 2015 and the 2030 target.
